My fascination with photoshop editing started around the same time as my obsession with ancestral research. The first time I saw someone remove imperfections from a photo they just took, I remember thinking "Whoa! That's pretty cool!" When I realized I could apply those same techniques to high resolution digital copies of damaged photos from 50 - 100 years ago, I was hooked. I love the challenge of bringing life back to photos that tell a story that otherwise would have been long lost to history.
One of my favorite restorations I've ever tackled looks like an ordinary young woman posing in a standard 1950's kitchen. There's nothing remarkable about the subject of the photo. It's not the most involved restoration I've ever done, nor is it the most complete. I could probably spend another couple of hours perfecting the edits - and I probably will go back and work on it again someday. What makes this photo special is the subject - it's of my Grandma. She sent this photo to my Grandfather while he was stationed in Korea. He carried this photo with him until he came home from the war. I am in awe of this photo, of her youth and beauty, of their sacrifices, of their Love Story. I love the restoration I was able to complete to save this photo, and the window into their journey, as much as I love the original with it's wear and tear from being in his wallet every day. This is why I do photo restoration.

Before and After: Grandpa's photo of his bride standing in the kitchen with her garden flowers
Original image suffered from cracking, scratches and spotting, and discoloration
From color correcting the faded snapshots of the 70's to resurrecting torn, faded, and scratched tintypes from the late 1800's, we know the value bringing life to a treasured family photo can add. Whether it expands your family tree by helping to identify a long-lost family member or connects you to the struggles and celebrations that make up the person behind the title of great-great-grandpa, Storied Impressions' Digital Restoration Artistry is here to restore and repair your most prized but damaged images.
Our process begins with an introductory consultation, where our restoration artist will evaluate the project and recommend a restoration package to fit the condition of the imagery. We will review the condition of the photo(s) and the medium (digital vs original print), supporting photos (if available/needed), and your goals for the project. From there we will outline the levels of restoration possible and recommend a package to meet your goals. All of our packages include regular check-ins, so you always know where we are with your project.
Perfect for that shoebox of 70's snapshots you found in the attic or the gallery wall at mom's that has suffered some sun damage. This package includes color correction, sharpening, contrast and light scratch retouch.
Images with crease lines or scratches, tears, water damage, and extreme fading need a one-on-one approach. Colorization of black-and-white or sepia images is also offered as part of the foundational restoration package.
Sometimes images need some additional love. This additional hourly rate provides the necessary time needed to complete more extreme repairs including reconstruction of facial features and missing corners and erasing deep gouges.
